PES2010 Card and Team Style Video

In one of Konami's slickest videos to date, fans are finally able to see gameplay (albeit only fleeting glimpses) of PES 2010 for themselves after reading so much about it in the past few months.

Opening up with footage from the studio tour, the video then mixes the descriptions of the Team Style sliders with gameplay footage of them in action. Konami also make a point of saying how they’ve worked on overhauling the AI elements of the game, with a much higher focus on team strategy, with segments highlighting the effects of how changing the slider bars work in-game.

When setting the Support Range up to 100, players will provide close support, while setting it to 0 means players will always spread out.

Dani Alves was used in text description of cards, and now we can see how it works as he runs down the right channel with the 'Overlapping Run' card turned on.

Apart from the gameplay footage, the Barcelona player stats are shown, as well as the new quick reference height and strong foot images. My favourite part of the video was at the end, with Messi receiving the ball on the edge of the area and heading on a darting run through the Liverpool defence.

After beating the first man, you see him almost lose control of the ball. However with a sweep of his left foot he brings the ball under control before firing a curling shot past the helpless Reina. Signs of how Konami are really putting in the hours to improve the animation for PES2010.

Another major impression I get from the video is just how much emphasis Konami are placing on individual game styles, and that everyone can experiment in fine tuning their systems using both the Cards and Team Style aspects of the game to create truly unique ways of playing.

Although the video is a bit thin on the ground with in-game footage, it really is just a mouth-watering taste of things to come in what will be released next week during and after Gamescom.

It's worth just pointing out that the video seems slightly faster in parts than it is in reality, which is most likely just down to the way it's been converted, so don't panic if you're sat there thinking it's much too fast. It also appears to be slightly out of date code, with the most up to date version being the one available at Gamescom (as well as PESFan offices, natch).

As well as all that, we’ll also be giving the answers to some of the interesting questions you’ve kindly been posting on the forum. And even if we don’t answer them all at once, smaller answers will continually be given as and when we find them out via our twitter and other methods. We’ll also have an in-depth preview of the entire game available from Monday, so it’s guaranteed to be an exciting couple of weeks for PES fans around the world.

Note: Our youtube page now hosts the high-res version of this vid, and can download the original video from our server here (84MB).
