Interview with RobMclean

After a successful run on the Win Saw VI DVD events and the Glasgow Play.com tournament, RobMclean is our Player of the Month for February!

We caught up with Rob and asked him for some info about himself..
Real Name: Robert Mclean
Age: 22

How and when did you get into playing PES?
I started playing it on PES4, was a FIFA boy at the time and my mate persuaded me to play a game of PES3 with him. He won 3-0, PES4 came out 2 weeks later and I guess I just improved.

And improve you sure did. How long have you been playing events with PES Rankings?
Since it launched.

You've had a good run on the SAW events this past month, as well as winning the Glasgow Play.com tournament..
The SAW events were cool, theres a really good set of admins in place just now and they really help keep things running smoothly. The PLAY.COM event in Glasgow was an awesome event, run by my buddy Marko. Was nice to get my first offline event win in a while and won a couple of the SAW events too which was nice. Helps the confidence a bit when you are winning and hopefully I can keep improving.

Which events have been your best so far?
Too many events to mention. Best events I have been to was probably the Euro finals in Ireland and Sevilla, World finals in Paris, North vs South at Villa park and the South event at Emirates. UK Finals for PES4 was really cool in the BT Tower and I guess the PES5 finals were nice cause I won it. But really, I only fully enjoy events if I'm doing well in them. Theres a few others I haven't mentioned that were cool too, like the Bolton North event, the XLeague.TV invitational and I would always have loved a shot at playing in the Media cup. Oh, and last year's Main Event was awesome too.

You have previously won the Main Event, and are a former European Champion. Do you think you are still one of the top players?
I'm just trying to do my best, I'll let other people decide If I'm one of the top players or not. Last year I only lost to LengJay in the big events and he's a top top player. He's a really nice lad too and its always a bit less frustrating when the guy you lose to is a cool guy.

How do you rate your chances for this season's Main Event?
If I practise enough, I'll win it. When I'm on form, I'm the best player in the UK and nobody on Rankings will beat me when it matters.

Is there anybody else's game you respect?
Marko9Gardinic. It annoys me a bit when people say he is an average player who has a good mentality. Marko is one of the most skilled players who will ever play on Rankings and is in the top 10 all the time without even really trying too hard. I really like JonnyNelson, Cesc and LengJay's style of play too, really good players who play similarly in many ways. Some of the players at the top I find it hard to really respect the way they play as its just playing the game and not football really. The Greek being the main one, hes a nice guy but the way he plays the game is horrible. Although I haven't found him that frustrating yet as he has never beat me. If he wins Rankings I will be very surprised. Footimaster will probably win it.

What sort of tactics do you use, and do these change depending on who you play against?
4-3-3, constant closing down and high pressure. If I'm being pushed back I have the ability to counter attack fast too though. Kinda similar to Arsenal when they were untouchable.

What are you looking forward to over the coming year?
Enjoying myself and getting some more wins under my belt. The Main Event should be brilliant at Wembley.
