Interview with PESRankings Champion The Greek
On Saturday The Greek realised his ambition and won the PESRankings UK Main event and finished the season on top of the PESRankings, ranking him as the UK's best PES player. I had the privilege of interviewing the UK's new number one PES player on his momentous victory.
First of all congratulations, can you describe how special Saturday was?
Saturday was a special day for me and my Family, it was a great idea that Main Event was held in Wembley this time. I woke up in the morning and I was nervous for the first in my life! The tour was also excellent and exciting. This year’s live draw was pretty good and we saw who got what in the group stages live.
Where you nervous/confident going into the final with Footimaster?
I was nervous in the semi finals vs Bad_boy_g because it was the first I had to play infront of a crowd. I could feel my heart pumping as I played but I got into the game quite well and i won 5-1. After the semi final I was more confident but still a little nervous when playing Footi, but couldn’t believe that I went 2-0 up in the matter of minutes.
Did going 2-0 so quickly calm your nerves of make you more nervous as you started to realise that you might just be about to win the UK final?
I was still nervous because I know Footi has comeback before with Samir in KOS and I needed to keep on pressuring until the end. When I was 4-0 up I knew that I could win the game so I started defending and the score ended up 6-1. Happy Times!
You walked away with £2000 worth of Play.com vouchers, how do you plan on spending them?
Probably spending my 1st voucher on electronics, games and my sister will probably robbed my other voucher :(.
How did you prepare for the Finals?
I tried preparing online but i couldn't find it really helpful so I told my dad that we should play together the last few days offline because the computers defense is shocking and too easy to pass through, so we played about 10 matches in the 3 days leading up to the final. I know that my dad was telling me that he couldn't handle the 10-1 score but he knew that i was going to be ready for Main Event!
You got great support from your family at the Main Event, any of them future PES Champions?
My dad doesn't play the game a lot but his passes are untouchable sometimes, if I had brothers i would of teach them how to play like me so they have a chance of winning this events. I don't want to really get anyone involved in my family on the PES scene as its only sisters I have.
How did you get into PES?
I started playing PES when i was 6 years old, my favourite PES game was PES2, I remember there was a training mode that really helped me when I was young, I was able to learn the basics of dribbling and passing.
What do you enjoy most about the PES games?
I mostly enjoy the events that i attend on PESRankings as I can't find any mode on this PES offline that hooks me. I loved online from other PES games but i think each year its getting worse and worse!
Moving on to the future, you will be representing the UK at the World Finals in September in Mallorca. How do you rate your chances there?
I rate my chances of 7/10 as I haven't practiced with the normal long camera yet but I think it will still go well. I will enjoy myself and hope I do well!
Are you confident you can retain your title next year?
Cesc will be looking to win the title next year, Footi will be looking to finish number one on PESRankings and Leng_Jay will be looking to get another double so I think it may be the hardest season next year.
A victory for the family!
