PES 2012 - Preview

2nd August, 2011 11:00:00pm
Posted by graday

We find ourselves in the middle of the PES revolution. Rewind 12 months, and you would see PES 2011 demanding that you re-learn everything you know. It was the same game that we're used to yet, at the same time, was entirely different. Some loved this new direction, others hated it - I, personally, reside in the former, with the caveat that, whilst the changes in PES 2011 were good (and needed) - it had a lot of work to be done before it could be classed as great.

Also, those that have followed my thoughts over the last 12 months will have seen my scribbling that PES 2012 would need to ditch the annual cycle of unnecessarily-complex overhauls and reinvention, and instead opt for a more streamlined approach - a process of improvement and refinement, with a particular focus on enhancing the most important element: gameplay.

As you're no doubt aware by now, this is exactly what Konami have done. Which leads us to ask the inevitable: Has it paid off? Will PES 2012 finally give us a great game of football?

PES 2011 Preview - Editing Explained...

3rd August, 2010 11:00:00pm
Posted by graday

There have been two significant jewels in the crown throughout the PES series, the much loved Master League and, hand-in-hand with that, the in-depth editing functionality. Over the years they have both developed significantly - particularly editing, which has been helped in a big way by the growth of the online community, allowing PES fans to easily share their hard work with others - and, at present you are never more than a few clicks away from an overwhelming library of Kits, Option Files and Crowd Chants etc, the fruits of hours of painstaking labour.

Cheers to the guys over at WENB for the heads up on this one, the Guardian has previewed PES 2010 and given it a very, very positive analysis.

"And as a total package FIFA 10 is hard to beat. But after a weekend playing PES 2010 it has quickly became obvious that on the pitch – ultimately where it matters most, of course – PES simply plays the more satisfying and entertaining game of football."

2010 Master League Play Through - Part 1

18th August, 2009 05:25:00pm
Posted by TheEditor

Ahh, Master League. A jewel in the crown of the PES series both past and present. Having said that, even the biggest fans will have to admit the mode has been going a little downhill in the past few years, and with very little advancement from game to game, was in danger of becoming obsolete.

Then rejoice, my friends, when I say that Master League has been thoroughly upgraded and, dare I say it, is returning better than ever. Why? Well read on, as I take you on a journey spanning literally hours in Part 1 of PESFan’s Master League play through.

PES2010 Hands-On

17th August, 2009 09:49:00am
Posted by andyofbramall

Tell you what Jon, it’s that time of the year again. Yup, Konami have released the latest code of PES2010 to the press, and here at the bright lights of PESFan towers we’ve managed to get our grubby little mitts on it for your benefit. Oh happy days.

As always when trying a new build of PES for the first time, I headed straight for Exhibition mode. What better way to test the ins and outs of a new code than by reliving that most classic of world football matches - West Midlands Village vs. East London.

The first thing that struck me about the game was just how hard it was to run with the ball now. Granted, every time I play a new version of PES there’s always that little adjustment period, but I was completely beyond all redemption. Every time I tried to dribble around a player I came unstuck, it seemed almost impossible. Even faster members of the squad like Ashley Young could only run a finite amount before being thwarted by a member of the Hammers defence. Before I knew it, I was a goal down inside 10 minutes. What on earth was I doing wrong?

Several games later - it hit me.

There’ll also be our Master League play test article on Tuesday. My ML season is going terribly, but the mode itself is coming along nicely, expect as much info as we can provide on the 18th.

On the 19th, we’ll be releasing some further information straight from the mouth of favourite fish-man, Shingo “Seabass” Takatsuka, when he’ll be giving his live presentation at Gamescom. What this means, we don’t quite know, but be assured you’ll find out as soon as we do.
